How long does a Chazelles fireplace take to install?
A.
If you are installing a wood-burning fireplace with a Chazelles Hot Air Ducting System, it will take approximately 2 – 5 days to install.

A non-ducted air system installation will take approximately 1 day. Installing a gas fireplace will take one full day, excluding the gas connection, which your plumber must install before the fireplace installation.

Are there any problems installing a gas fireplace into an existing or new fireplace in an apartment or house?

If you have an existing fireplace, the installation is relatively straightforward as long as the opening size (width, height, and depth) is big enough to accommodate one of our units.

Installation is straightforward for brand-new fireplaces. Fireplace areas with the flue can be built within any room. Fireproof materials can be used to build walls, and in the case of top-floor apartments, a flue can be built through the roof cavity with permission from your Strata Body Corporate. The walls can be finished to match the rest of your room, and you can choose a surround that perfectly suits your interior design.

What does the term firebox mean as opposed to fireplace?

In Europe, the term firebox means the actual cast iron/steel unit that is built into the fireplace surround. The firebox surround is a design feature and a separate product. In Australia, fireplace is the general term for both the firebox and the fireplace surround. This website distinguishes between the fireplace (firebox) under the product range and the fireplace surround design.

Why is having a fully cast iron fireplace so important?

Cast iron is a great conductor of heat. Its thermal inertia ensures that warmth is released for a long time after the fire is over, providing ongoing radiant heat like a radiator. Cast iron also has good corrosion and rust resistance properties, ensuring a long product life.

Why would I choose a fireplace made from double-skin steel and firebricks?
A.
All fireplaces made from heavy-duty cast iron are very heavy, and consequently, fireplaces larger than 900 mm are too heavy to transport and install easily.

For this reason, Chazelles developed the Design Collection, which provides product solutions for every size and type of installation. Fireboxes in the Design Collection are made from heavy-duty double-skin steel and firebricks. This combination of materials ensures the fireboxes are lighter in weight, especially if they are over 900 mm, providing customers with more straightforward and more flexible installation options without compromising their heating requirements.

The benefit of the double-skin design structure is that it maximises the radiation and convection generated between the two skins. The ambient air of the room is naturally drawn through the bottom of the unit and heated to a very high temperature as it travels between the two skins. The hot air is then released from the top of the unit back into the room.

To compensate for the thermal inertia normally found in cast iron models, fireboxes in the Design Collection are completely lined with firebricks. These firebricks are fully removable, helping to lighten the firebox’s weight for transportation and installation.

What do I need to know about heat output?

Heat output is rated in kilowatts (kW). The kilowatts you will need depend on where you are located in Australia, the size and design of your home, the number of windows, if you have home insulation, and the length of time the fireplace will be operated.

For example, an 18-square-metre house that is well insulated will require a lower output than the same-sized home with no insulation. Fireplaces should be sized to accommodate average rather than extreme temperatures.
